HONOURING
ROY WEISTCHE

April 22nd, 2026

Our dear friend and mentor, Roy Weistche, passed on April 17, 2026.

Roy as a proud Eeyou from Waskaganish. As Coordinator of the CCP since its inception in 2015, he was also responsible for community capital projects in Waskaganish. He played an active role in implementing the priority projects identified by his community: riverbank protection, community facilities and cultural spaces, activities on the land, etc. Enthusiastic, generous and committed, Roy loved sharing his community’s planning story. Hwas regularly invited to speak at CCP events all across Turtle Island, where his words inspired many people to blze their way toward self-determination.

Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones and all those who had the honour to know him.

A LIVING LEGACY

Roy leaves behind a living and inspiring legacy for his people and for our planning community. The many projects he carried out in Waskaganish reflect his love for his community, and his lessons in planning will continue to deepen our practices for years to come.

To honour his memory and his work, we are sharing some of his lessons here:
